Our program and project management capability extends across all phases of a program / project. We are well versed in all major project management models, and have experience delivering complex programs including Defence acquisition projects. We can work within a project team, lead large complex projects or provide services within a PMO.

 

Project Planning
The core success of any project is in the planning and it needs to be an evolving agile process throughout the project. Our planning services ensure your project can adapt to the changing environment while maintaining the balance of the established triple constraint (time, cost and scope) priorities. We provide support services in the following project planning areas:

–   strategic alignment and project portfolio management
–   business case / feasibility study / concept definition development
–   eliciting and documenting needs, using requirements management systems such as DOORS
–   developing Functional Performance Specifications (FPS)
–   developing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
–   developing project performance criteria and assessing constraints, limitations
–   developing risk profiles
–   undertaking cost and time evaluations, including life-cycle cost estimates
–   master scheduling using industry scheduling / project management tools
–   network diagrams and critical path analysis

–   developing responsibility (RACI) matrices

We have delivered planning in complex projects that require liaison and facilitation with multiple diverse stakeholder groups. Our project planning experience includes support in Defence acquisition and upgrade projects across the Defence Capability Life Cycle (CLC) and the development of project artefacts for Gate 0, 1 and 2 reviews.

Project Delivery
On completion of initial effective project planning, the execution of the project becomes the focus. Delivering successful projects requires effective management of tasks, budgets, and resources. Managing effective communication with all stakeholder groups is a primary focus. We are skilled conflict managers and negotiators and understand the importance of maintaining project administration, facilitating effective progress meetings, and reporting.

Our services in the project execution phase include ensuring the triple constraint of scope, cost and time are maintained in accordance with the predefined priorities. We consistently review project performance through quality control and assurance, safety and environmental compliance, assessing against planned performance criteria, and calculating earned value. Managing project risk is a principle element of our project delivery services, and we monitor the critical path and the effectiveness of other risk controls to limit surprises that could cripple a project.

Our project management specialists have had specific training in PMBOK® and/or PRINCE2® methodologies. We have a working knowledge of ISO 21500 and our team are registered members of the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).

Project Monitoring and Control
While this service is an element of project delivery, it is also a service we offer independently. It is difficult for most project management teams to critically evaluate their own performance. Poor project performance is an ongoing challenge within industry where many projects are significantly delayed and exceeding budgets yet continue to be pursued for the project’s sake. We offer project monitoring and control services that not only provide accurate information on how your project is performing, but also provide you with the information at stage gate reviews to determine whether the project should continue as planned.

Our services focus on establishing a project control function that reviews performance data and recommends remediation plans when indicators show areas of concern or issues are encountered. We use control charts and earned value management (EVM) for understanding schedule and cost variance, and monitor / manage scope creep within designated change processes.

The performance of projects is required to be reported to authorities, such as Portfolio Managers, Program Sponsors and PMOs at set milestones and stage gate reviews. Our offering under this service delivery area includes the development of these reports which are garnered through performance data capture and analysis, lessons learned workshops, risk and issue registers, change registers, and feedback from stakeholders. Our reports include project wrap up / close outs to finalise projects and act as a source of knowledge for future endeavours.

Program Management
Managing projects effectively is difficult; it takes extensive experience, discipline and skills to manage multiple projects within a program. We have experienced program managers that are proven in portfolio management, have supported Program Management Offices (PMO) and have been responsible for the effective integration of a number of projects.

We have experience in establishing, implementing and delivering within complex programs. This includes the development of program charters, governance plans and management systems that include PMO enterprise-level planning, quality, risk, performance, assurance and reporting processes.

Our program managers are experienced in defining priorities and knowing when to move resources, budget, and time from one project to another if needed. This is undertaken through close monitoring of project risk and performance. This can only be done with close liaison with all project managers and other stakeholders.

Our experience extends to supporting Defence Program Sponsors in delivering complex Air, Land and Sea acquisition programs to Capability Managers, working with Fundamental Input to Capability (FIC) leads and transitioning assets to the in-service environment.
